About PC Egbuna

BIOGRAPHY OF MRS. PATIENCE CHINAGOLUM EGBUNA (NEE ONWUATU) 

Mrs. P.C. Egbuna was born on the 5th day of August, 1941 to the family of Late Joseph Onwuatu of Ogbendida village and her mother was Late Mrs. Janet Onwuatu (Nee Ananti) of Umudei village of Onitsha. She was the second child of the family.


INCEPTION OF KNOWLEDGE

Mrs. P.C. Egbuna attended Rev. Anyaegbunam Memorial School Onitsha from 1941 to 1947 and C.M.S Girls School Onitsha from 1948 to 1953 and ended her secondary education at Union Secondary School, Ibiaku, Ikotekpene from 1954 to 1958.
After her Secondary school education, she proceeded to train as a teacher at the women Training college, Umuahia from 1959 to 1961.
She taught for a while as a science teacher before proceeding to further her education by attending the University of Nigeria Nsukka where she obtained Bachelor’s degree in science [ B. SC. (Hons) (ED) Biology]
She crowned her educational pursuit by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Science (M.S.C) from the University of Keele, Keele, Stafford shine England in 1985.



THE WEDLOCK

On the 15th of January, 1966 she got married to Late Barrister Benedict Aniweta Egbuna from Ogboli Olosi Village of Onitsha and the marriage was blessed with five boys and six grandchildren.

TEACHING CAREER BEGINS

Mrs. P.C. Egbuna was a renowned educationist who served in numerous educational institutions and bodies across the country. She was in the employ of the Diocese on the Niger/Anglican church in Nigeria as a science teacher from 1961 to 1970. Under that employment she taught in various Schools like Girls Secondary School Ogidi from 01/01/1961 to 31/08/1965, Dennis Memorial Grammar School from 01/09/1965 to 28/02/1967, Anglican Girls Secondary Commercial School Onitsha from 01/03/67 to 31/03/70.
When the Government took over the schools in 1970 she was retained by the government and became the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary Commercial school Onitsha until 1972. She was transferred as a principal to Mater Amabilis Secondary School Umuoji where she served from 01/03/72 to 01/08/1976. She left on transfer to Girls Secondary School Oba, Idemili local government where she was the school principal from 01/09/1976 to 31/08/1984.
She came back on transfer to Girls Secondary School (Anglican Girls Secondary School) where she served again as the school principal from 01/09/1984 to September 1995 when she retired as a principal.

STILL IN THE ROLE
She served in various other capacities in organizations and government establishments both at state and national levels. She was the secretary of ALL NIGERIAN CONFERENCE OF PRINCIPAL OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS (ANCOPSS) from 1991 to 1995. During that same period, she remained a National Executive Member of ANCOPSS, serving at the National level of ANCOPSS.
Mrs. P.C. Egbuna was the Anambra state representative at the national working group on teaching profession from 1994 to 1996. She was Member III Anambra State Education Commission.
Mrs. P.C. Egbuna was also a member of the Anambra state Library Board from September 2000 to 2003. She served as a member of Anambra Agenda 2003 Monitoring Team from 2002 to 2003 and a member of the Women development Project Center Abuja during the same period.
Mrs. P.C. Egbuna served as a Member of the Governing Council Nwafor Orizu college of education Nsugbe from October, 2005 to April 2006. 

In recognition of all her contributions as a seasoned educationist the Federal Government of Nigeria awarded her the PRINCIPAL EMERITUS OF NIGERIA (PEN) status. Only three principals from Anambra State got that prestigious award in and around 1997.
